State Relay Championships
State Relays are contested by Centres from all over NSW and athletes in
the age
groups under 8 through under 15 are eligible for this competition.
Athletes may compete in either track or field relay events, but not both.
Selection process:
With only a few weeks after our season commences to select relay teams,
the following procedures will be used to determine the relay teams:
- The Championships Officer will brief all Age Managers on Relay Team
selection;
- The Age Managers are responsible for working with the athletes and their
parents
to finalise the team to represent their age group. In the event of
any
uncertainty,
the Age Manager should contact the club's
Championships
Officer;
- The 4 athletes with the best performances season-to-date in the events
being
entered into the State Relay will be given priority for team selection
(each athlete
must have a minimum of 2 recorded performances for the
event in the current
season);
- If any of these athletes for what ever reason is not available to be part
of the
team then the athlete with the next best performance will be eligible
for the team;
- To be eligible for inclusion in this ranking process, an athlete must have
recorded
during normal competition;
- Relay practice for athletes selected in track relays will be held in the two
weeks
leading into the carnival and attendance at these sessions will be
compulsory.
Availability
for these training sessions is a selection
requirement. Unexplained
absences could
mean that a child is dropped
from the team. If a child is unable
to attend a training
session, their coach
or age manager should be advised as
early as possible.
Exceptional circumstances will be taken into consideration where the
above criteria
are not met (such as injury or absence due to holidays, etc).
Preference will,
however,
be given to children who meet said criteria.
The club's Championships Officer and President are ultimately responsible
for
settling any issues or disputes in relations to team selection.
The State Relay competition is typically a long day and is held in all
weather
conditions.
Participation requires commitment to the team,
training and
performance on the day
irrespective of the weather conditions.
With this in mind,
the selection committee
will pick optimal teams that will
have a reasonable
chance of making it through to the
finals.
These teams
may be for track or field
and may involve the combining of athletes
from two
age groups to create the
strongest combined team.
Remember, failure of any athlete to attend on the day of the competition,
without
prior
notification, could result in the rest of the team being unable
to compete.
Zone Championships
Balmain Little Athletics is part of the Inner City Zone. Athletes in the age
groups under 7 through under 15 are eligible for this competition. Under 7
athletes do not progress past the Zone Championships. Under 7
place-getters will receive medals for their achievements. In other age groups,
finalists will receive a certificate and the first four in event finals will progress
to compete at the Regional Championships.
A maximum of 4 athletes from each age group can be entered into the Zone
competition for each event and athletes are limited to entering 4 events each.
In the event that more than 4 athletes from an age group want to enter the
same event, the 4 athletes with the best performance in that event for the
season to-date will be selected.
The Age Managers are responsible for collecting nominations for events and
working with the athletes and their parents to finalise the team to represent
their age group. In the event of any uncertainty, the Age Manager should
contact the club's Championships Officer.
The club's Championships Officer and President are ultimately responsible
for settling any issues or disputes in relations to team selection.
Regional Championships
Our Zone is part of Region 3. Athletes in the age groups under 8 through
under 15 qualifying at the Zone Championships are eligible for this competition.
Under 8 athletes do not progress past the Region Championships.
Place getters in each age group will receive a medal.
If an athlete places in the first three athletes in a particular event at the
Regional Championships they will qualify for the State Championships.
State Championships
Athletes in the age groups under 8 through under 15 qualifying at the
Region Championships are eligible for this competition. The State
Championships are one of the most prestigious events to which an athlete
may progress. It is a forum where the outstanding athletes of each Region
in NSW meet. Athletes in the under 13 age group are selected from final
events to compete, as part of the NSW team, in the Australian Little Athletics
Championships.
State Multi-Event Championships
Multi-event Championships are open to all registered athletes in the under 7
through under 15 age groups, and consist of between four and seven individual
events conducted at a single Championship meeting. Points are awarded on
the results of each component event and the cumulative result determines the
placings in each age group. The events offered per age group are as follows:
U7 B/G
50m; 100m; pack start; long jump; shot put; discus
U8 B/G

Athletes, who enter the Multi, must compete in all component events.

from future Multi events.
